NAIROBI, July 27 (HANA)--Kenya’s national carrier, Kenya Airways, has signed a Code-share agreement with Turkish Airlines, establishing a broad commercial co-operation, including code-share on the Nairobi/Istanbul route, operated two times a week by KQ.
A statement from Kenya Airways said on Thursday that in additional to the Special Prorate Agreement (SPA) the agreements will allow the two airlines a better access to each others’ networks, with significant benefits to be offered to both companies’ customers.
“Through this agreement, Turkish Airlines will be able to place its code on Kenya Airways flights operating between these two cities, thus offering additional service to their customers,” the statement said.
“By signing this agreement we are providing our passengers with an opportunity to use Istanbul as a connection point into Eastern Europe, which is now playing an important role in global affairs,” the airline’s Chief Executive Officer Titus Naikuni said.
“The partnership is also in line with our strategy to improve the route network to satisfy our fast changing customer’s requirements,” he added.
The airline said the partnership with one of Europe’s most successful airlines would enable KQ to link the continent to Eastern Europe through its vast African destinations.
“The new agreement is part of Kenya Airway’s strategic expansion plan that seeks to deliver greater flexibility and choice to its customers,” it said.
'Expanding our relationship with Kenya through this code-share agreement is another step of our efforts to develop fruitful co-operations with the leading airlines throughout the World actually, making KQ our 15th partner with which we have such an agreement.” said Hamdi Topcu, Vice chairman of the Board of Turkish Airlines.
Topcu said the partnership would bring forth significant benefits for the two airlines and passengers owing to Kenya Airway’s wide network and numerous destinations especially in Africa:
“We are excited to partner with Kenya Airways because it will provide our passengers from Europe with a great opportunity to connect reliably and seamlessly into any part of Africa,” said Topcu.
The Turkish Airlines (THY) is the national flag carrier for Turkey. It undertook its first domestic flight in 1933 and its first international flight in 1947. Enditem
