|
NAIROBI, Feb. 2 (HANA)--Police in Kenya on Sunday night recovered a cache of deadly weapons in Narok Township, north-west of Kenya’s capital Nairobi. This is the second consignment to be unearthed at a local businessman’s premises Munir Ishmael in the same rural town. Late last year, police found 100,000 bullets and military gear in a couple’s house at Narok town. Sources told HANA that police are guarding two houses believed to be harboring the cache. Top police brass flew to the area as further operations were carried out. Journalists were barred from accessing the premises. Police sources said they anticipated getting more weapons. Residents of the town under spotlight recently held a demo in protest against the rising cases of insecurity in the area, This has been a major breakthrough for the police in the fight against crime, but with speculation rife that people in the rift valley are re-arming themselves ahead of the 2012 elections. Violence erupted early 2008 after a disputed general election that left at least 1,300 people dead and thousands homeless. Residents are accusing the Government of ignoring their plight and wants action taken against police officers who they claim are sleeping on the job.
